What a year!

What a year this has been. All we seem to talk about anymore is the economy and the elections. I suppose in some way they are all connected. The challenge remains for all of us to be positive about our communities and our work. Regarding our work it is most important that we maintain good business practices and great craftsmanship in an environment where prices remain flat. The margins and the opportunities that existing before the housing market collapsed is in the past - but what is in our future?

Follow the Money!

Control your costs through good work practices in operating your business, guiding and teaching your craftspeople and understanding the needs of your customers. Being innovative in these areas will improve your margins and your mood. One innovation we would encourage you to consider is using QuikJoint at the appropriate time. One contractor who has been using the product refers to as his “in the pinch” joint sealer. When his company has a small project, rather than sending all the necessary equipment and labor to seal a joint less than 200 lineal feet, they send one man and one torch to do the finish work.

Just think about it. Sealing a joint 20 feet long requires the following:

Using Melter-Applicator: Load melter/applicator (2 men), Haul to jobsite, unload, heat the melter /applicator (min.15 minutes), apply hot pour sealer , cover joint with black beauty, wait for melter to cool (20 minutes), load melter/applicator (2 men), haul back to shop, unload melter/applicator (2 men). Clean up varies. Using QuikJoint; Load pail of quikjoint and a propane tank with torch (1 man) or (keep in utility truck). Unload Pail and Torch (1 man), place quikjoint over seam (1 man). Heat quikjoint (1 man), load pail and torch (1 man), haul back to shop (optional unload quikjoint). No Clean Up. Innovation in products and business practices produces profits and better margins.
